Adepticon Bond

Well,
As most of you know, a friend, his son & myself will be making the trip out to Chicago to attend Adepticon. http://www.adepticon.org/ This is the largest non GW gathering of GW gamers in the states. I was invited by Hank Edley to run two WAB events as well as a Legends of the High Seas. I will be, besides running Demos and the WAB events, acting as Adeptus Arizona's on the spot event coverage person.

So I thought I would give you a small run down of my schedule and what I will be doing while there and what it takes to get my stuff there & back home again. So my schedule is as such:

Arrive in Chicago on 4/10/08 sometime around lunch time and meet up with my buddy Ed Kastler who will be helping me run things.

Friday: Ed & I will be running 4 WAB Demo games from 1:00 - 2:00, 2:00 - 3:00, 3:00 - 4:00 & 4:00 - 5:00 as well as two Demo games of Legends of the High Seas at 3:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 7:00.

Saturday:WAB Open Single Tournament 8:00 - 5:00 as well as 2 LotHS Demos at 10:00 - 11:00 & 1:00 - 2:00. Awards should be handed out for the WAB event after 5:00. Sunday:WAB Doubles Team Tournament 7:00 - 4:00 and 3 LotHS Demos at 9:00 - 10:00, 11:00 - 12:00 & the last one at 12:00 - 1:00.

As some would notice, there is overlap on some of these, but hopefully we will have help. So what is this crazy person taking with him, well good question. I will be taking about 30 Pirate figures for the LotHS Demos, about 25 Old West figures (will explain that in a minute). And all this along with prizes from Gripping Beast, Black Scorpion & Black Cat Bases will also be going (roughly another 118 figures in blisters). All this need to fit into a suitcase as well as room for clothing and other must have items that go along with traveling. Needless to say I will be doing some creative packing!

Now I have talked with a few guys out there and it looks like we will be doing some LotHS & LotOW gaming after the events in the wee hours of the night, hence all the Pirates & old West figures. I wanted to take my LotR Easterling or Orc army to do some pick up gaming, but I'm running out of room, so sadly the LotR stuff will be staying home. That bums me out since they have 40 LotR players there playing in the LotR team event, which is by far the largest US LotR event to date!

So this weekend I will be getting all the books & assorted paperwork and other stuff (dice, tape measure, counters, etc) together for the Tournaments & the demos. I luck out since the guys in Chicago have built some nice terrain for the Demos & it looks like the Specialist Games section will have the best looking terrain. So I'm sure I will forget something but it will be a blast.

Currently it looks like they (Adepticon) have about 700 or so people registered for the event, so it is going to be huge. Pretty much all the Demos but 1 were sold out, it looks like all the WAB Demos are as well. The tourneys are pulling about 10 folks for the Open & 4 teams for the doubles, but heck, this is the first time they have done this. Last year LotR had something like 8 guys, this year 40! So hopefully WAB will do the same.

So there you have it, I will report as soon as I can or if I borrow someones laptop.

Demo game of LotHS

Well,

On 3/15/08 I ran a demo game of Legends of the High Seas at my local game shop Imperial Outpost games. I ran a scenario out of the book, X marks the spot with 4 Crews fighting for the treasre which was burried somewhere on the table. The spots denoted where the treasure may be had tokens below that are numbered from 1 to 6 on the bottom.

Here is what the board looked like, as I mentioned I had four Crews (2 Pirates, Royal Navy & Privateer) fighting it out with each other.

I ran two games with a total of 8 players getting to try there hand at LotHS, one book was sold that night with a few others in the next few days. All in all the players had a blast playing. Here are a few random shots from the games.

Alot going on...

But I have been lazy to take pictures of anything. As posted on a buddies blog, been looking at playing Necromunda again & have dugout the rules & my three gangs that I have painted up (Van Saar, Orlock & a Chaos Cultist group).

Also finished 500 points of Easterlings for Lord of the Rings, painted them in about two weeks which surprised me. Have yet to hit the table with them.

Working on a display board for Legends of the High Seas that I will run at our local game shop on 3/15/08. Plan to take pictures of the game as well as the figures. By the way, LotHS has finally hit the shelves over here in the states and folks are liking what I wrote. It's strange going into some of the shops and seeing the book on the shelves and seeing my name on it. Its kind of surreal! Just this weekend my buddy & I were in one of the local shops and he said I should go up to the front of the store & ask if they would like me to sign some of there copies they had for sale. I didn't do it, but I have thought about buying my own book and slapping down my credit card to pay for it and seeing if the store clerk would recognize my name, but have not done that.

Just saw that some of the authors over at Warhammer Historical have started a blog, http://warhammerhistoricalwargames.blogspot.com/ I wonder if I will be able to contribute to it?

Been painting some Pulp figures lately, here are few shots,

I also built this rench farmhouse for some WW2 games I have been playing, here are a few shots of it so far.

And Yes the doors are on hinges and open, I really like having this sort of detail on the table.

Also back in November, I had the pleasure of having a good friend Pete Borlace stay with me on his AZ travels. Pete helped out with doing all the layout work for Legends of the High Seas. Well while he was here Mike came over & we hosted a game of AT-43. Here are a few shots of the game. First picture up is Pete, notice he's playing a non GW game.

Legends of the High Seas has arrived

Well,

It has been a long voyage to get here but I finally received my copy of Legends of the High Seas today from Warhammer Historical. The book has been well over three years of work & it feels good to actually hold it in my hands. I guess I can now say that I'm a published author now.

I would like to thank a few people that made this possible, First, Rob Broom over at Warhammer Historical http://www.warhammer-historical.com/ , Rob gave me a chance to full fill a dream of mine to write my own game and to become a Pirate, so thanks Rob.

Secondly I have to thank Tom Opalka for connecting me to Rob Broom and the one guy who kept telling me to write (and write and write & write!).

Next I would like to thank Robert Brightwell and his whole family. Rob is my closest friend out here in AZ, and we spent many hours on the phone talking about Pirates & game mechanics. His family jokes about me being his second wife, well I wouldn't go that far, but I understand. I also dedicated this book to his daughter Emily Brightwell who passed away last year. many times when I called to talk to Rob Emily would be on the phone and she would have to get off so her Dad & I could talk about army men.

Brandon Forrey is the next person I would like to thank, Brandon and played many games of Warhammer Fantasy Battle & Mordheim together and Brandon gave me allot of help with the campaign aspects of the book. He helped me keep the book balanced.

Tim Eagling is also another guy I would to thank. Timmy was the guy who helped me with all the ship rules. In act Timmy has written for GW before and was one of the guys who wrote Warhammer Ahoy, which was the rules for Ship to Ship battles in Warhammer Fantasy Battles. Pete Borlace is another guy that needs to be thanked. Pete did all the photograph and layout for the book. He is the one who turned my manuscript into a book. I had the chance to have Pete visit me here in the states twice, and we had a blast while he stayed with us. And his girlfriend Emma is a perfect match for him.

Alex Bews, Dominic Goh & Tom Weiss, are the guys that provided the bulk of the figures in the book and are all part of the Lead Adventure Forum http://forum.backofbeyond.de/index.php . These guys are some of the best painters on the ace of the planet and do some amazing work, thank you guys!

Thanks to all the play testers, Dave Smith, Terry Maltman and everyone else that played this little Pirate game, you guys kept the vision alive! Also a big thank you to the local guys I usually play with, the North Phoenix irregulars http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/northphoenixirregulars/ for listening to me talk about Pirates.

A big thank you goes to my wife Shannon, for letting me write, play and indulge myself in being a author. Without here blessing, this thing would have never happened!
